News Article: International festival of medieval culture opens in the Hrodna (Grodno) region
"About 500 people representing military-historical clubs in Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, and Estonia have arrived at the ancient capital city of the Grand Duchy of Litva [Rus, and Samogithia] to reconstruct the atmosphere of the 14th century by various shows. Belarus is represented by members of 21 military-historical youth societies from Baranovichi, Bobruisk, Brest, Homel' (Gomel), Hrodna (Grodno), Lida, Mensk (Minsk), Mahilau (Mogilyov), Novapolacak (Novopolotsk), Pinsk, Polacak (Polotsk), and Rechitsa."
"The first day of the festival includes show combats, mounted knights' tournament, performances by musicians, and theatrical shows staged by the Belarusian drama theater Volnaya Stsena. In the evening, a mass combat show involving pyrotechnics is to be staged."
"On June 25, the organizers plan to stage a parade of knights and reconstruct a battle of 1314, when an army of the Teutonic Knights besieged the Navahradak (Novogrudok) Castle and began to storm it with the use of stone-throwing machines. To have the picture closer to historical reality, a piece of a wooden wall has been built on the Castle Hill, which has linked a newly built tower with the ruins of two towers of the ancient castle."
"The festival was organized by Lithvania et Ruthenia, a national military-historical confederation which is in the process of formation at present, and the Navahradak (Novogrudok) History and Local Lore Museum, with the support of the Minsk-based companies Kettler-Sport, Traveling Invest and Ofisniye Tekhnologii, and the branch of Priorbank in Lida."
