"The seminar was organised by the Belarusian National Fundamental Research Foundation in accordance with a decision by the 28th session of the UNESCO general conference.
The seminar's organising committee, which is led by Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Zametalin, includes Aleksandr Voitovich, president of the National Academy of Sciences; Viktor Gaisenok, chairman of the State Committee for Science and Technologies; Anatoly Dostanko, chairman of the Belarusian Supreme Attestation Committee; Aleksandr Rubanov, president of the National Fundamental Research Foundation; and Vasily Strazhev, minister of education. Applications for participation have already been received from prominent scientists in Belgium, Bulgaria, Estonia, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Russia and Ukraine. On the proposal of the UNESCO director general, the seminar participants will issue an appeal to the World Scientific Conference which is to be held in 1999.
