Canadian Relief Fund For Chernobyl Victims in Belarus
"Over the last seven years many Canadians have responded. We have grown to a grass-roots volunteer organization of hundreds of Canadian families in 32 communities across Canada with one objective to help the victims of "Chernobyl" in Belarus. These Canadians have given selflessly of their time, talents, resources and of themselves to bring hundreds of Belarusian children to Canada for health-improving visits and to deliver thousands of pounds of humanitarian supplies to Belarus. My heartfelt thank you goes out to them all. Their love and generosity has touched the lives of children and their families in Belarus and given them hope for their future."

Chernobyl Children's Project
The message was: "S.O.S. Appeal. For God's sake, help us to get the children out."
"As a result of this fax, office volunteer Adi Roche organised the first visit of Chernobyl children to Ireland, visited Belarus herself and went on to become Executive Director of this special charity to help the children of Belarus and Western Russia. Since then, thanks to the work of Adi Roche, the Project team, and to the support and generosity of literally thousands of Irish people, the Project has gone from strength to strength. In l996, the tenth anniversary year of the disaster, "Chernobyl Children's Project" is sending out the biggest ever convoy of medical and humanitarian aid to leave Ireland for the Chernobyl region, valued at approx. £2 million, and is bringing over 1,000 Chernobyl children to Ireland in the summer."

The Fund is concerned with Chornobyl radiation relief, orphans, convalescence, and handicapped children. The Fund has particularly strong ties with Britain and the Republic of Ireland, co-operating with a number of charitable organisations based on the British Isles, primarily, the Chernobyl Children Charity, based in Rye, Sussex, and the Victims of Chernobyl Children Fund, based in Newport, Wales. In the summer of 2000, the Fund brought children from the Kamaryn and Brahin areas of Belarus to the British Isles.

"We look to serve needy children and families in the most direct way possible, and so we are committed to be present where the need is: outside of Moscow, in the areas of the Chernobyl-ridden zone (Ukraine and Belarus), the Ural valley (Ekaterinburg), the conflict-prone North-Caucusus and the unknown Russian Far East in Chita. A small number of staff coordinate activities out of Moscow, while our emphasis of activity is on those outlying areas: our staff are located where the needs are, and serve to bring the needy to a new level of coping with a changing society."
"World Vision talks about 'holistic' change - the change that affects every area of life. Programs are, therefore, diverse: there are projects in health reform, environmental issues, spiritual leadership, emergency relief, economic development and employment training. Each of these issues can be addressed in the Urals, Far East, Belarus, Ukraine, the North-Caucusus."
