• AEGEE
  "An international student organization active Europe-wide. Its aims are to promote democracy, civil society, pluralism, European integration, and student mobility. AEGEE is not linked to any political party or religious group. AEGEE is a non-profit NGO, acting on a voluntary basis. At present we have about 15,000 members in 150 university cities in Europe. But we are not present in Belarus. That's a pity, as we enable students from various regions to travel abroad and meet their peers from other countries, at the same time working on various projects together."

  "The   International Adoption Agency, Inc.,   is a non-profit Michigan agency that has programs in Russia and Belarus (now an independent state, borders with Russia, Ukraine, Poland). The Russian program was started in 1992; the Belarus Program was added in 1993 long before Belarus even had it's new International Adoption Law. The Belarus program of the agency is the only "working" program in the US."

  "ISAR was founded in 1983 as part of the citizen diplomacy movement that sought to reduce the threat of nuclear confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union by building links between the peoples of both countries. We believe that these citizen efforts contributed significantly to the ending of the Cold War and created new opportunities for citizen participation in the shaping of foreign and domestic policy."

  "In the post-Soviet era ISAR's mission is to support local initiatives and empower local citizens seeking to create a more just and sustainable society. ISAR is guided in its work by the belief that meeting the social and ecological challenges of today depends on more equitable distribution of resources, open access to information and greater cooperation among groups and individuals."

  "ISAR also serves as an information clearinghouse with an extensive database of West-NIS NGOs working on environmental issues. In 1995 this information was published and distributed to all Ukrainian, Moldovan, and Belarusian NGOs as the NGO & Ecology Directory. The database is constantly being updated, and a new directory with information on more than 500 West NIS Environmental NGOs was published in May, 1996. Another main activity of the Kyiv office is publishing environmental literature. Over a dozen publications, including many translations of foreign works on environmental themes, are distributed to the NGO community free of charge. In addition, ISAR-Kyiv distributes its own monthly newsletter to more than 600 addresses, which includes information about seminars, conferences, publications, grant and scholarship opportunities, and upcoming events of interest to environmental organizations. • Sabre Foundation Inc.
  "Sabre Foundation Inc., founded in 1969 and based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is dedicated to the philosophy and practice of free institutions. Since 1986, its principal activity has been the donation of new books on a wide range of subjects to schools, universities, libraries, clinics and needy individuals in Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union.
