"The Belarusians of Moscow has recently held its founding conference, which passed the association's charter and elected its leaders, the newspaper Krasnaya Zvezda reported."
"The Belarusians of Moscow represents associations of ethnic Belarusians such as the Belarusian Friendly Association, the Moscow Alliance of Belarusians, Batskawshchyna, and some others. Nikolai Shlyaga, chairman of the Belarusians of Moscow Council, said that one of the association's main goals will be to strengthen friendship between the Belarusian and Russian peoples, contribute to the preservation and development of the Belarusian language, traditions and culture, and maintain close ties with other national associations in Russia."

"The Belarusians of St. Petersburg will be represented at the conference by Valentin Gritskevich, a researcher of the national diaspora; and writer Anatol Krivel."
"Oleg Trusov, BLS deputy chairman, said that the St. Petersburg organization represents about 100 ethnic Belarusians, among whom are workers, inventors, engineers, navy officers, and intellectuals. According to Mr. Trusov, all these people closely follow the situation in the country and regard the projected unification of Belarus and Russia as 'an imperial idea.'"
"All the Belarusians of St. Petersburg are advocates of Belarus' independence, Mr. Trusov said. They have allegedly signed an appeal to the Belarusian leaders, calling for the establishment of a national university in Minsk and donated a sizable amount of money in support of the BLS."
