"The congress declared raising the role of national-cultural societies of the Belarusians of Ukraine in development of ethnic, cultural, and linguistic origin of our country-fellows as the main task of the union. Irina Orzhekhovskaya, the deputy head of the Belarus Society in Kiev, was elected chairperson of the union. The congress also adopted an appeal to the presidents of Belarus and Ukraine."

"The Belarusian minority is especially strong in the Republic of Crimea. It has been organizing festivals of Belarusian culture in Yalta and Simferopol on a regular basis. The Foundation of Culture of the Republic of Crimea has instituted a Maksim Bogdanovich prize named after the well-known Belarusian writer. Belarusian is taught in many schools which have a large number of ethnic Belarusians."
"In Lviv, the Francisak Skaryna Belarusian Ethnic and Cultural Society publishes a newspaper titled Belorus Galichiny in Belarusian and prepares 15-minute radio newscasts titled News from Belarus. At the Belarusian Embassy's request, the Ukrainian National Library of Friendship between Peoples has granted premises for a Belarusian literature subsidiary. According to the ambassador, the Belarusian communities in Kyiv and Lviv assisted in returning Belarusian cultural valuables to Belarus, for instance five icons believed to date from the 15th century which were found in the Kyiv-Pechersk National Park. The Belarusian community in Lviv wants to send back to Belarus two Slutsk belts and Francisak Skaryna's bible currently stored at the Ukrainian National Museum."
"Sixty Belarusian-published newspapers and magazines have been included in Ukraine's subscription catalog as a result of the effort of the Belarusian Embassy in Kyiv, Mr Kurashik said."
