Mikola Celesh
(1900-1976(?))
After printing his first stories
in 1929, Mikola Celesh became fairly famous in Belarus. He published several
books before World War II. His stories were translated into Russian and
Polish. He emigrated to the United States from Germany in 1949. There
he worked as a blue-collar workman, while writing prose for Belarusian
magazines and newspapers. In 1976 he went out of his house... and dissapeared.
It has been thought that he returned to the USSR, but it is more probable
that an accident occurred.
''Clouds Over my Land'' includes
his best works written in Belarus and abroad.
