Jurka Vicbich
(Jurka [George] Stukalich) was born in the city of Velizh in the family of an Orthodox priest. For a
long time he worked on fabrics and factories of Belarus and Moscow. He
took part in various archeological expeditions within Belarus, the findings
of which are now in South River, NJ. Before World War II, he published
two books of stories. During the war, he wrote a large amount of articles
about the history of Belarus. In 1946, he organized magazines: Shypshyna
and Zviniats Zvany Sviatoi Safii and organized the literary guild Shypshyna.
Abroad, he published two books, a large number of articles in various Belarusian
newspapers and magazines. In his articles and essays, Vicbich wrote about
the history of Belarus, as well as about the modern time. One such story is "Over the
Land of Belarus Walks Rahneda." He published over 200 articles in
the Russian newspaper Novoe Russkoe Slovo, although the book, Anticommunist
Uprisings And Resistance In Belarus, which he spent most of his time
writing, still remained in manuscript form. This book was first published
by BINIM in 1996.
