Barys Rahulia
1920-
Barys Rahulia was born in 1920.
He was accepted into Belarusian Himnaziia in 1930. In 1937 he passed the
exams for medical faculty of the Stefan Batoryi University (Vilnia). He
was soon drafted into the armed forces. World War II, arrests and captivity
followed. He could only continue studying for a degree in medicine in
Belgium. In 1954 Rahulia, together with his family, emigrated to Canada.
Today, Barys Rahulia is the president of the London Academy of Medicine
(Canada), medical director of help to victims of Chernobyl, member of the
Canadian Council of Multiculturalism. Barys Rahulia takes part in the
development of Belorusian politics abroad. He is the vice president of
Rady BNR since 1971.
In 1996 Barys Rahulia published
his memoirs, ''Belarusian
Students Abroad''. This book is about the lives of young Belarusians
after World War II in Belgium.
