      "The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB); the "Academy," in the following) is the leading research centre of Belarus united scientists and the most qualified specialists in advanced fundamental and applied research."

      "The Academy was founded in 1929 and currently incorporates about 50 research institutes, centres, divisions, and branches. In addition to the research centres, the Academy includes a well developed design base with pilot scale production. To promote scientific investigations the Academy has its own Central Scientific Library and Publishing House. The Academy's institutions are situated in all of the regional centres of the Republic."

      "The work of the Academy is headed by the President and Presidium (the latter is an elective collective body). Institutions and individual members of the Academy are organized in 5 Departments: Physics, Mathematics and Informatics; Physical-Technical Problems of Machine-Building and Energetics; Chemical and Geological Sciences; Biological Sciences; and Humanitarian Sciences. Post-Doctoral and postgraduate programs are used for the training of highly skilled specialists."
