"A son of a Belarusian immigrant and an Amer-Indian national, Sherman was born in Montevideo (Uruguay) and did his studies in Buenos-Aires (Argentina). He traveled all across South America, part of Europe and Northern Africa. He has translated over 20 books from Spanish into Russian and Belarusian. He wrote many himself, his latest book being dedicated to the American Indians."

His latest book, Los Puntos Cardinales, Nakirunki svietu, The Cardinal Points, Storony Sveta, is written by Sherman in Spanish. The book is published in a four-language edition - the Spanish original, and translations into Belarusian (Ryhor Baradulin), English (Vera Rich) and Russian (I. Bursau).
Karlos Sherman, 71, who translated most Belarusian classics into Spanish and many books from Spanish into Belarusian, died in Kristiansund, Norway, on March 4 after a long struggle with a disease.
A son of a Belarusian immigrant and an Amer-Indian national, Sherman was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, and did his studies in Buenos-Aires, Argentina.
He lived in Minsk since the mid 1950s and worked in Belarusian PEN for 15 years.
