The following is from the Historical Dictionary of Belarus (1998), "About the Author" (page 299):

"Jan Zaprudnik is a graduate of the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium (1954), and holds a doctorate in history from New York University (1969). He spent 37 years with Radio Liberty's Belarusan Service as a correspondent, producer, and editor. Zaprudnik also taught the history of Russia and the Soviet Union at Queens College of the City University of New York and the history and politics of Belarus at the Harriman Institute of Columbia University."

"His books include Belarus: At a Crossroads in History (1993), Z historyjaj na "Vy" (1994); and Bielarus na histarychnych skryzhavanniach (1996). He has contributed articles on Belarus to The Handbook of Major Soviet Nationalities (1975); Encyclopedia of World Literature in the 20th Century (1981); National Identity and Ethnicity in Russia and the New States of Eurasia (1994); Belarus and Moldova (1995); Encyclopedia of Democracy (1995); Encyclopedia of U.S. Foreign Relations (1997); New States, New Politics: Building of the Post-Soviet Nations (1997), and other publications."

"He has also published numerous essays on Belarusan subjects. A native of Belarus, Jan Zaprudnik has visited his homeland regularly since 1991, keeping in touch with Belarus' world of politics, culture, and scholarship."
